The Duck Head Brand has been on the market without interruption for over 135 years, since 1865, and is one of the most consumer recognized brands in the country. You will find the Duck Head Label on quality shoes and apparel in the casual workplace as well as on virtually every high school and college campus in the country.

Old Dominion Footwear is our parent company and manufactures, markets and distributes the Duck Head and Drifters brands under its umbrella. In addition to these two brands, Old Dominion Footwear works with major retailers across the country developing and supplying private label footwear.

We manufacture and stock men's, women's and children's quality, volume priced leather footwear. Many of our key patterns are offered in hard to find sizes and widths.

Our corporate headquarters and distribution center is located in Lynchburg, Virginia. We maintain a professional sales organization throughout the country to service our retail partners.

Methods Used in Manufacturing Duck Head Shoes

True Moc "Moccasin"
This is a very flexible form of shoe making where the fore parts of the insole of the shoe forms the base (sides) and the Moc or the upper is sewn by hand or machine to the base of the shoe. The form of manufacturing used in our men's and women's loafer or slip on styles.

Cemented
The form of manufacturing where the upper and the outsole are glued or directly attached together to form a strong bond. A method of manufacturing used in our hikers, boots and oxfords.

Welted
This is where the upper, lining and insole is attached to a strip of leather known as the "welt" and then sewn to the outsole. This form of manufacturing is used in our men's casual outdoor boots and oxfords.

Direct Injection
The upper and outsold are attached by molding the outsole to the upper. This method is used in our waterproof boots and oxfords.

Types of Leathers Used

Crazy Horse Leather
Known for it's high oil content and inconsistent finish. Used in our hikers, boots and outdoor oxfords.
Pit Stop Leather
Heavily milled or tumbled leather with high oil content. Used in dress/casual boots and oxfords.
Nubuck
Soft consistent finishes used in all casual/dress boots and oxfords as well as out waterproof shoes and boots.
Finished Leathers
Used in our women's and men's casual/dress styles full grain with soft supple feel to the touch. These leathers may have a smooth slightly supple finish or they can have a tumbled grainy finish.

Care of Leathers
Applying a liberal application of quality leather cleaner and conditioner can care for all of the "oily leathers" and "finished" leathers.
Nubuck leathers can be treated with liquid silicone and stain repellent.
The leather used in making Duck Head shoes will retain some of the natural markings and scratches of the hides it came from. This is common in full grain leathers and shows the character of the leather has not been altered.
Alternating shoes and the use of shoe trees on a daily basis prolongs the life of the shoe by allowing time for perspiration to dry and the shoe to maintain its original form.
